Common questions

What is the PT-141 dosage for women?

The only FDA-approved PT-141 product is Vyleesi (bremelanotide), indicated for premenopausal women with acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). The approved dose is 1.75 mg injected subcutaneously into the abdomen or thigh at least 45 minutes before anticipated sexual activity. No more than one dose may be taken within 24 hours, and no more than 8 doses per month are recommended. This calculator performs math on the values you enter; it does not recommend any dose. Always consult a licensed clinician.

What is the PT-141 dosage for men?

There is no FDA-approved PT-141 dose for men. The Vyleesi label explicitly states the product is not indicated for use in men. Off-label research use in men is reported in the literature and clinical practice, with commonly cited doses ranging from 1 mg to 1.75 mg subcutaneously, but no dosing protocol has been evaluated or approved by the FDA for this population. This calculator can compute draw volumes for any dose you enter; it does not recommend any dose. Consult a licensed clinician before use.

How long before sex should I take PT-141?

The Vyleesi prescribing information specifies administration at least 45 minutes before anticipated sexual activity. Plasma levels peak at roughly 1 hour after subcutaneous injection (Tmax approximately 1.0 hour), and the half-life is approximately 2.7 hours. Clinical effects are commonly reported to last 6 to 12 hours, though individual response varies. The label also cautions that blood pressure may increase transiently after each dose, typically resolving within 12 hours.

How many units is 1 mg of PT-141?

It depends on your reconstitution concentration. With a 10 mg vial in 2 mL of bacteriostatic water (5 mg/mL), 1 mg is 0.2 mL, or 20 units on a U-100 syringe. With the same vial in 1 mL (10 mg/mL), 1 mg is 0.1 mL, or 10 units. Enter your own vial size and water volume above to get your exact number.
